I am the undergraduate co-ordinator for Newcastle University medical students in Anaesthesia and Critical Care at the RVI. I oversee all medical students who spend time in our department, which includes SSC students, Elective students and final year HBP (Hospital-based practice) students. Being a large teaching hospital and Major Trauma Centre we have a broad range of different experiences to offer our students. Students can gain exposure to paediatric, obstetric, trauma and regional anaesthesia as well as anaesthesia for complex orthopaedic, spinal, neuro and general surgery. We also have a well-established pre-assessment service, acute and chronic pain services and 3 critical care units on our site.
