    MEPA is a national course for Specialty Trainees in Anaesthesia, teaching management strategies for paediatric anaesthetic emergencies. MEPA is recognised by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists.

    A one-day, small group simulation course, offering both practical and theoretical training using simulation. Provision is made for detailed scenario feedback and discussion in a supportive and constructive manner.

    This regional course is held throughout the year, at the Newcastle Hospitals Trust Simulation Centre based at the Freeman Hospital.

    This two day practical simulator course will give you the skills needed to commence supervised practice in Obstetric Anaesthesia.

     This course is of most benefit to those who have had no obstetric anaesthesia experience.

    Topics include:

    • Introduction to Spinal & Epidurals in Obstetrics
    • Practical Spinal & Epidural Analgesia insertion
    • Spinal complications for Caesarean section
    • Management of Rare Serious Problems
    • Practical General Anaesthesia in Obstetrics
    • Failed Intubation in Obstetric-Anaesthesia
    • Management of Major Haemorrhage in Obstetrics
    • Cardiac arrest in pregnancy

    Time:   8:00 am (prompt start)

    Venue:   New Education Centre, Royal Victoria Infirmary

    Four intensive revision days on the 6 core essential units along with general duties and basic science.

    • Aimed at those who will be sitting the March exam
    • Exposure to answer 16 past questions, 8 under exam conditions.
    • Compliments existing writer’s club, so no overlap of questions
    • Led by local Advanced trainees
    • Opportunity to send in any tricky questions/subjects for discussion
    • Hot topics hour
